Paranoid
Paranoid was born from my moving into an apartment complex that was more isolating in nature than previous living arrangements of mine. While my living accommodations were perfectly safe by anyone’s standards, I constantly experienced the feeling of being physically vulnerable in my own home. Simple navigations through the building were accompanied by nervousness and growing anxiety. A gradual suffocating paranoia was born from nothing more threatening than solitude and my own imagination.
Paranoid utilizes the photographic medium and a broken narrative to explore these unrealized fears, conveying a sense of unease and destabilization. This series brings into question whether any actual danger exists. The subject of surveillance is referenced yet it is unclear whom is being watched and who is watching. The tension in this series is in what could be. Where there is inactivity, there’s fear, there’s anxiety, there’s paranoia.
